Rumor: Rosario Dawson to play Ahsoka Tano in The Mandalorian season 2

From /Film:

“We have exclusively learned that Rosario Dawson will appear in The Mandalorian season 2 and are excited to report that she will be playing a fan-favorite character previously only seen in the Star Wars animated productions. Dawson will be playing a live-action version of Ahsoka Tano, Anakin Skywalker’s Jedi padawan apprentice who appeared in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels. This would be the character’s first appearance in live-action.

Dave Filoni, the co-creator of Ahsoka in animated form, is a writer, producer, and director on The Mandalorian. He made his live-action directorial debut helming multiple episodes of the first season, and we saw a couple of weeks back that Dave Filoni had returned as a director for the second season. We have confirmed this Dawson casting with two independent sources. We reached out to Lucasfilm to request a statement from the company or Dave Filoni, but received no response. We have been chasing this scoop for a month now and have reached out to Rosario’s reps, who also didn’t respond.

This is a fan-casting dream come true. In 2017, a fan tweeted at Rosario Dawson, asking her to appear in a Star Wars movie as Ahsoka, and the actress responded, “Ummmm… yes, please?! #AhsokaLives” This tweet spurred groups of fans to campaign for her to play the role. Dawson was later asked about the fan campaign while appearing on Good Morning America, and she commented that “It would be amazing!” […]”

  1. This would be one of the most pointless fan service ever, it doesn’t surprise me since Filoni already put time travel in Star Wars just to keep his favorite character alive. She has become way too overrated.

I hear the word harassment so much, I feel like it’s lost its meaning.

In this case, it’s far more serious than any trivial squabble over pronouns, it’s a full-on violent attack. If Rosario had a part in orchestrating this – it looks vague from the article – then she should definitely be ruled out of casting.

Rosario is the boyfriend of a powerful individual, and I worry about how this court case will play out.

I hope Ashley Ekstein gets to continue voicing this character though dubbing like with Maul and Vader in the past. It won’t be the Ashoka we love otherwise.

      • Thanks to both of you for letting me know about this. I’ve been digging into it, and one of Dawson’s own friends called the allegation crazy:

But, that being said, I don’t take too kindly to abuse of any kind. If Rosario Dawson is responsible for this kind of crime, then yes. Absolutely kick her out. A prophetic image of her with Hayden Christensen is not enough to justify a crime of this proportion. I should be placing bigger emphasis on “if”, but I will be wary of future developments. Because this IS upsetting.

I’ll wait and see what comes next.

Thanks for your sober response and recognising the seriousness of this, Arch Duke.

Exactly! Using the wrong pronouns or saying ignorant/mean things is one thing, and not exactly good, but a full-blown physical assault on someone is something else. Of course, her role in this could be minor or exaggerated, but this isn’t doing wonders for her image, and it certainly isn’t something Disney should be apathetic about.

        *Rosario is the girlfriend

No human being deserves to be beaten up like that. And from what I can deduce, there likely wasn’t any agents of influence at work (alcohol or drugs). That looks real bad.

I’m pretty sceptical of cancel culture and its twin moral purity in general, but this thing is so different. It isn’t an obnoxious Tweet from 8 years ago, and it’s not a slap or a shove either – it’s knocking somebody out.

A lot of these Hollywood types are all about virtue signalling and lecturing the dumb, ignorant, uncultured, uncivilised, privileged public. So, how in good conscience can Rosario hope to do that now? And who will want to listen to her? At this rate, I’d be better off listening to Mike Pence!

I tell you what, if Lucasfilm does hire for the role, I wouldn’t blame any LGBT person from boycotting Star Wars. No amount of wokeness or cynically raised rainbow flags from Disney can offset for such a grievous act like this. These are the things that truly matter.

If Rosario was present, and did nothing to stop her mother from carrying out her brutality, then she’s complicit just like Anakin was in the Mace Windu-Sidious fight.
